The Board of Directors of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has approved the appointment of Engr. Adeleye Falade as the company’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 2026.

He succeeds Philip Mshelbila, who will step down on December 31, 2025 to assume the role of Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar.

Falade, currently Managing Director/CEO of Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, brings extensive international experience in LNG operations and leadership. His appointment marks a seamless transition following Mshelbila’s more than four years at the helm, during which NLNG navigated post-COVID recovery, flooding disruptions, vandalism challenges, and global energy volatility stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war.

A symbolic send-off ceremony in Abuja, attended by shareholders, board members, executives, public officials, and staff, praised Mshelbila’s “transformative leadership.” Deputy MD Olakunle Osobu highlighted key milestones under his tenure, including:

  • Diversification of feed-gas beyond shareholder joint ventures through long-term agreements with six third-party suppliers, adding approximately 1.29 million scf/day.
  • Strong emphasis on sustainability, emissions reduction, innovation, and safety.
  • A comprehensive transformation programme designed for long-term value creation.

General Manager External Relations Sophia Horsfall lauded Mshelbila’s “selflessness, steadiness, and vision,” noting his unique blend of medical, environmental, business, and diplomatic expertise. Mshelbila expressed gratitude to colleagues and stakeholders, pledging to champion natural gas as a sustainable bridge fuel in his new role at GECF. “NLNG’s culture of excellence will guide me,” he said.

The appointment underscores NLNG’s stability as Africa’s premier LNG exporter, producing around 22 million tonnes annually and contributing significantly to Nigeria’s non-oil revenue.
